Copenhagen

This morning I woke up from a dream that took place somewhere in Maine and was surprised to find myself -shit!- in an apartment building full of strangers, in a city full of strangers, in a country full of strangers etc. Today was Christina’s birthday (a member of the 2nd floor) and so Line made crepes and strung the Danish flag across the kitchen and on her bedroom door. After breakfast I asked advice about where to take care of getting money and a phone and started out. The city is very friendly – not once did I feel weird about being alone. I walked into the center of the city which is pedestrian only.. and not just one street but many. There I found an ATM and took out 800 Kroner, which is surprisingly few dollars – just about 142 dollars and 30 cents. King’s Garden was very cool, well kept and neat. I got to sketch the Rosenborg Castle, but it cost money to go inside so I stayed in the garden. The Botanical Gardens were beautiful as well! Not so much a display as a park with a large variety of labelled plants. I got a chip for my phone which allows me to make calls in Denmark but the plan has two flaws – the first is that it costs money and the more unfortunate is that I didn’t bring my charger, thinking that my phone wouldn’t fit with a foreign chip! When I got home to the apartment Christina was making a Danish baked good that is a bread with sweet things in it – like blueberries or chocolate. So I helped her cut up the chocolate and we left them to sit to rise. She encouraged me to go for a run while the weather was nice (grey and cool enough) so I hit the lakes again. After a shower and some communication with my hosts in Fredensborg I went back to the center of town to meet with a woman about buying a bicycle. I’m a little pooped but it was such a welcoming day. Thanks Mali for my first comment 🙂 Much love,
